Our Story

Does a propagator/plant breeder ever retire?

Absolutely not.

Starting with the Elizabeth Town Nursery, which opened in the 1980’s, our family has been all about plants. John Dudley would research better ways to produce and grow plants. The whole family would contribute to producing, breeding (plants) and selling.

After 20 years John would decide to focus solely on Hellebores and closed down Elizabeth Town Nursery and re-opened as Elizabeth Town Hellebores.

Now in retirement

John Dudley is finding sitting still isn’t his thing. So together with the family we have moved the business online. We focus on selling seeds to the national market, and increasing our seed collection, holding specialised events throughout the year, and still focusing on breeding Hellebores and now Epiphyllums.

New generation

Now the family has grown, we all have our interests, Melissa grows Hellebores and Cacti, particularly Epiphyllums, Kathryn has taken a liking to South African Bulbs, Corrie is all about Orchids and John just loves everything but people. For this reason, Kathryn has taken over the public front of the website while juggling a chatty and lovely 8 year old and full time work.

The new generation learning the tricks of the trade.
